The innocent are sometimes slain to make way for grander schemes. You were collateral damage.

Last night in Comp II, we watched Matchpoint. We're studying drama, specifically the role of the tragic hero in tragedy, and considering my whole I'm-a-writer thing, I really cannot wait until this section is done. I'm not a tragedy kind of girl.

However, as I was watching, all I could think about was how much Kate Winslet would have OWNED the role of Nola; whereas Scarlett is positively coasting these days and LITERALLY making my ass twitch. That scene towards the end when Nola goes to Chris's apartment? The "YOU'RE A LIAR!!!!" scene? Can you imagine it? UGH.

Apparently, I am SO OVER Scarlett Johansson. And don't even get me started on Jonathan Rhys Meyers. I haven't been able to stomach him since The Governess. (His constant need to show his ass publicly does not help in the least.)

Anyway.

Blerg, that movie was so boring and tragedy-by-numbers. Like, isn't this the plot of several Victorian novels? Also, Woody Allen often writes lines that only he can pull off -- when JRM says something about an opera singer expressing "all that's tragic in the world," it sounds pretentious as hell, whereas with a Woody character it would have just been pathetically hilarious.

Also blerg to ScaJo. I feel like Ghost World might have been the first and last thing I liked her in.

Exactly. I think that is the very reason my professor loves it so. It's pretty easy to teach. However, as I am a YUUUUGE lover of movies, I've seen better, and ones that didn't hit me over the head with the ending of the movie two fucking seconds in.

This. Shit, even Javier Bardem handled the randomly corny bullshit better, too. I just CANNOT take JRM seriously in the least.

Yes, at least then she wasn't playing the same character. BLERGH, indeedio.
