There are slight spoilers for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I under the cut, but I just love this small mention from this EW poll that really captures one of the greater aspects of the film, i.e., Ron and Hermione's evolving relationship.

This movie left me an emotional mess and I loved every minute of it. )

Basically, I could talk about this movie all the live-long day and want to see it about a gajillion more times in the theater so that I can catch all the things I missed the first time around. July really cannot come fast enough. Also, I would do Rupert Grint in half a fucking second, that hot-ass ginger.

Really, just knock it the fuck off already. I only have so many beloved childhood movies left. What are you going to do next, remake Explorers or My Science Project? (AND NO, THOSE WERE NOT SUGGESTIONS FOR UPCOMING PROJECTS.)
rubykatewriting: (Angelina Jolie: So PRETTY)
1. Pick 20 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDb, and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. No Googling/using IMDb search functions.

I'm not crazy, I just don't give a fuck. )

In my personal top five as far as movie kisses go. Perhaps only surpassed by Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman's amazing clutches in Notorious – can they really be called kisses? They're like these desperate, closed-mouth leans and yet I love love LOVE them – and the car scene in Roman Holiday. Anyway, this scene never fails to turn me into a puddle of girly goo; I can still remember watching this the first time (and the second, third, fourth...) with Shawn and Chad when we were kids. Then Nana's dog started humping the couch. Also: probably the hottest I've ever found Eric Stoltz, save for The Waterdance.

And this lovely trip down memory lane was directly inspired by [livejournal.com profile] romanticalgirl's still awesome article What Makes Sexy?.

This will probably only be playing at the Angelika downtown. ARGH.

Somebody posted a secret about World War Z!

Please don't let the movie suck balls, okay, movie people?

A chain email I got that nearly made me choke on my own spit. )

In other news, Mom and I rented The Secret Life of Bees yesterday. It really captured the tone and themes of the book so well, even if it did young-ify the sisters and Rosaleen, and I, of course, SOBBED LIKE A BABY through the latter half of it. The use of india.arie's "Beautiful" socked me in the chest bone, people, and I’ll admit I’m predisposed to love anything Sophie Okonedo does because hello, AWESOME, but she WAS May.

I told Mom she has to read the book, like, immediately.

Have you watched this yet? I REALLY REALLY REALLY WANT TO SEE THIS MOVIE, YOU GUYS.

James T. Kirk being his awesome, badass self set to the Brit's Circus. No, seriously, people, IT WORKS SO HARD.

Oh, one more thing: YOU'RE WELCOME.

I'm with [livejournal.com profile] carrielh, Star Trek XI IS really the best fandom ever.

If you follow this link, you will find yourself smack in the middle of so much awesome, your brain will be BLOWN.

It's like the nostalgia is catching or something.

Icon has nothing to do with this post. It's just way fucking pretty, and I finally get to see Star Trek tomorrow.

But...that isn't the POINT of the story. GRRRRRR. Come now, people!

500 Days of Summer

Is it July yet?

Last night in Comp II, we watched Matchpoint. We're studying drama, specifically the role of the tragic hero in tragedy, and considering my whole I'm-a-writer thing, I really cannot wait until this section is done. I'm not a tragedy kind of girl.

However, as I was watching, all I could think about was how much Kate Winslet would have OWNED the role of Nola; whereas Scarlett is positively coasting these days and LITERALLY making my ass twitch. That scene towards the end when Nola goes to Chris's apartment? The "YOU'RE A LIAR!!!!" scene? Can you imagine it? UGH.

Apparently, I am SO OVER Scarlett Johansson. And don't even get me started on Jonathan Rhys Meyers. I haven't been able to stomach him since The Governess. (His constant need to show his ass publicly does not help in the least.)

Anyway.

Having watched Fracture for the fifty-millionth time last night, I want some Willie/Mona fic. It is so totally obvious she wants him, but then, who wouldn't? He might be a morally ambiguous character, but he's funny and hot with the added bonus of being the big no-no in the working world, i.e., the whole he's her boss thing.

I have ideas, wherein she's been reassigned to some other part of the DA's office upon his return to the FOLD OF JUSTICE, and while he isn't exactly living the monk's life, they run into each other outside of work. He'd be like, "We should do something." She would be like, "FINALLY." And oh god, it would be a thing of clichéd beauty! IT WOULD BE AWESOME.

This song is awesomely appropriate because much like Fuck Yeah! Ryan Gosling is representative of his behavior with his "girl" IN MY HEAD, I think this could be his theme song. DO NOT TRY TO TALK ME OUT OF THIS FANTASY. I LIVE IN A HAPPY PLACE BECAUSE OF IT.

So. It's quite possible my new English professor is going to make me insane by semester end. He has this really meandering, stream-of-consciousness lecture style. He's brilliant and a fellow word nerd, but oh my GOD, it's WEDNESDAY NIGHT. I've been at work ALL FUCKING DAY. You really want to make me cut you with this "I always go to 9:50" bullshit. (Speaking of, [livejournal.com profile] briary_flower, the poetry portion, which will happen mid-semester [we're covering drama now], runs the gamut. I spent a good half-hour ignoring him and bouncing from one poem to the next. We're talking ee cummings, Pablo Neruda, Edgar Allen Poe, W.H. Auden, Yeats, Keats, etc., etc., etc. I was completely geeking out.)

Holy fucking hell, I'm exhausted.

Also, HI EVERYBODY! I didn't mean to take such a long break from LJ, but I had my surgery last month and took three weeks off from just about everything. They took four and half pounds off of each breast (as Gabs put it, "You were packin a frickin baby around all this time!"), and while I'm not into real bras yet (it's sports bras all the way), I am officially a C-cup. Plus they were able to save both nipples so I can potentially breast feed my future babies. My god is it rad.

Anyway, I think that's enough of an update for now. I need to get some actual work done. Oh and write my paragraph on what I think is "good English." Did I mention my professor is a wee titch NUTS? Yeah.

Oh! Almost forgot. [livejournal.com profile] buffyx, [livejournal.com profile] blahblahologist, and [livejournal.com profile] halfway2home, thank you all for my Christmas cards! They were such lovely little surprises. (V, I LOVED the Office stuff, too. I was giggling like such a damn fool when I opened the package; Mom was giving me her "I don't get fangirls" look.)

ETA: Jensen Ackles, we need to talk. Really? This is what you spend your precious time off doing? REALLY? I want my seven bucks back, fucker.

Holy shit, Twilight was just as bad as I had imagined.

Oh my GOD, you guys! This looks so amazing!

List time

1. I am alive. We survived the storm relatively unscathed. Besides a few shingles pulled off the roof and our fence well and truly fucked, Ike took pity on us. Centerpoint Energy, on the other hand, did not; we didn't get our power back for a week. Now THAT was a bitch and a half.

2. My consult with the boob doc went well. It's only a matter of waiting to find out if the insurance approved me, or if I'll have to go a round with them to prove that I do need to get my Ks down to a C. *fingers crossed*

3. I am officially in love with Step-Up 2: The Streets. Don't even ask, people. It's positively AWESOME. Of course, I have a great love for Fast Forward, so. Grain of salt.

4. Privileged is, hands down, my favorite new show this season. I love it like burning. And I finally - FINALLY! - figured out where I know Brian Hallisay (a.k.a., hot neighbor boy Will) from: he played Jimmy in the Cold Case ep "Forever Blue." That episode made me cry like a wee baby. Plus, hello, HOTNESS.

5. The Grandmother is finally back home, which means I get to go to the movies this weekend for the first time in four months. I swear, I could cry. Nevermind having back my weekends. I have missed my weekly movie fix. Eagle Eye, here I come.
rubykatewriting: (HIMYM: LEGENDARY)
GUYS! So, I may have recently gotten into Wizards of Waverly Place. What? I have a thing for Disney. I figure if I can admit to not only ENJOYING and REWATCHING The Hills to the point that I have actually taken sides (TEAM LAUREN, YO), this is really small potatoes, you know?

Anyway, so the kid that plays the older brother? Is Ted's son on How I Met Your Mother. And guess who his first kiss was on the show?! ROBIN'S SISTER KATIE.

Then I caught the episode of House with Michelle Trachtenberg and guess who played her dad? Alex Rogan, LAST MOTHERFUCKING STARFIGHTER. Oh, yeah. This probably will only have me geeking out, but oh my hell, that was one of my all time favorite movies growing up. I squeed a little when I finally placed him.

TV, YOU SO VERY VERY AWESOME.
