"Oh, hey, you're the tree."

Speak is on Lifetime right now. I love it a lot. It is such a perfect adaptation of the book. Steven Zahn as Mr. Freeman was a stroke of genius. That moment towards the end when Melinda shows him her secret room? GUTS me ever damn time I watch. My favorite, though, is the end of the movie, Melinda in the car with her mother, finally telling her everything.

Sweet Jesus, I'm tearing up just thinking about it.

In other news, that of the WTF variety, a bug committed suicide against the side of my head. I thought it rather rude and presumptuous of the bastard.

That was definitely one of Lifetime's better films. I watched it randomly one weekend.

Steve Zahn? Completely underappreciated. He's always good and does a nice variety of littler character parts. "Shattered Glass" comes to mind.

When the news hit that Lifetime was doing the adaptation, I was all WOE. But that cast - Kristen Stewart, Elizabeth Perkins, DB Sweeney (he gives great dad), Steve Zahn - sort of won me over, and when I finally got it from Netflix, I burrowed in my room and sobbed my way through it just as I knew I would.

I've adored Steve since Reality Bites. He is all kinds of amazing. One of the best character actors currently working. I really hope Rescue Dawn is good. Steve and Christian Bale in a movie together? Yes, please.

Speaking of Kristen Stewart... What do we think of "In the Land of Women"? I read one review that said she steals the movie.

I would totally buy that; however, after all this talk of rewrites and reshoots (although it seems all of that was done to showcase the relationship between Lucy and Carter), I'm more than a little apprehensive. Of course, they showed a really great preview during FNL tonight, and I was all, "I'm so going to see it. Who am I kidding?"

Speaking of, FNL was AMAZING tonight.

I haven't seen it yet! Damn you east coasters!

P.S. - I've got your suicidal fly beat. A bunch of...somethings came flying at my window while I was driving. I thought it was rocks at first, but they just splattered and I'm still not sure what it was, but it was weird. I felt like I was in a scene from "Armageddon" and asteroids were coming at me.

[identity profile] rubykatewriting.livejournal.com 2007-04-12 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. Central Standard Time, baby. One more time zone that owns the West Coast. HA!

Okay. Weird. I had a similar experience today as I drove home this afternoon, only with random clumps of dirt coming out of nowhere and flying at my windshield. And of course, I would have my windows open, and I was on hold with 311 reporting a bad light. I was just waiting for a clump of dirt to smack me in the head.

What the hell, windshields? You are suppose to SHIELD. Not ATTRACT all matter of splattering things.

I never hate being in California, except for when I have to avoid my flist because everyone is talking about FNL/SPN/insert show here.

It was a hazardous day on the road, country-wide.

P.S. - I sent you an email. ;)

Heh. Yep. Soon I shall know that pain firsthand. Now, at most, I have to avoid a few of the east coasters.

P.S. - I sent you an email. ;)
Got it. Will look over it at lunch. Also, YAY.

My dad teaches that book every year to his lower-level kids, and they love it. I'm trying to hook him up with the movie version so he has that option if he wants it. It's good, then? Good.

Suicidal bug = not cool, dude. Fly to your death on your own turf.

[identity profile] rubykatewriting.livejournal.com 2007-04-12 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Your dad is kind of awesome. I think it should be required reading for every girl in the universe.

It's really great, actually. I need to buy it.

Fly to your death on your own turf.
This is all I'm saying.

Is that the girl who spent that whole movie, whatchamacallit, frozen, and then made eyes at her own brother? BTW, having a bug hit you in the head is better than having one go into your mouth when you're running. Not that I would know anything about that.

[identity profile] rubykatewriting.livejournal.com 2007-04-12 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be her. Guh. I really was disappointed with that film. Like, to a ridiculous degree. I was expecting a Jumanji and instead I got that.

HEE! Yeah, back when I was on the swim team, night practices were completely ruined after I swallowed a junebug (they absolutely COAT the pool surface) whilst doing the backstroke. Came up for a breath and had the bonus of some unwanted protein. *shudders*

[identity profile] briary-flower.livejournal.com 2007-04-12 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Bleargh. Don't junebugs weigh 15lbs or something?

[identity profile] rubykatewriting.livejournal.com 2007-04-12 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Goodness, no. They're tiny little things. I've hated them since I was a child. My grandparents' back porch would be covered with them come the end of summer. The cousins and I would walk out at night and they're impossible to see or avoid them. All you would hear was *crunchcrunchcrunch* under your feet. So fucking gross.

However, the fireflies were fantastic up in Dallas back when I was a kid. We would spend hours watching them. God, I miss fireflies.

[identity profile] briary-flower.livejournal.com 2007-04-12 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I have fireflies! Er, in my backyard. I never saw one before I moved here.

[identity profile] rubykatewriting.livejournal.com 2007-04-12 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Aren't they fantastic? God, I love 'em. Sadly, there aren't any down here in Houston.
