Paperback, hardback or trade paperback?
Paperback.

Amazon or brick and mortar?
Brick and what-y? And, yeah, Amazon.

Barnes & Noble or Borders
Barnes & Noble. There is something vaguely unwelcoming about Borders. It's weird. I just don't like the joint.

Bookmark or dog-ear?
I usually note the page number. I rarely use a bookmark.

Favorite place to read?
My couch, but if the weather is pleasant, I do enjoy climbing into one of the Adirondack chairs on the front porch and read. Of course, we've now been forced to move those to the backyard since our potted plant collection has increased exponentially since we bought the house.

Alphabetize by author or alphabetize by title or random?
Heh. That would mean I'd have to actually organize my books.

Keep, throw away, or sell?
Keep. I can hardly bear to lend my books to friends/family. I always fear I'll never see them again. Yes, I am strangely attached to my books.

Keep dust jacket or toss it?
Keep.

Read with dust jacket or remove it?
Remove it and use as bookmark.

Short story or novel?
Novel.

Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket?
Harry as I've never read any of the Lemony Snicket books.

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?
I try at chapter breaks.

"It was a dark and stormy night" or "Once upon a time"?
Huh. Um, once upon a time?

Buy or borrow?
Buy. One summer a few years ago, I was quite the library-goer. Alas, it backfired miserably. I ended up purchasing all of the books I loved, which was about 90%, because I can't not own a book I adore.

New or used?
New, for the most part, but last summer, I bought about five used at Half-Priced Books. I didn't enjoy the process of searching through all those stacks – like the ultimate game of "needle in a fuckstack." Oh, and smelly.

Buying choice: book reviews, recommendations, or browse?
A little bit of all three. I love covers. A lot.

Tidy ending or cliffhanger?
Cliffhangers make me nutty when it's a series. However, I don't require a neat, tidy ending. If it's a little messy or somewhat ambiguous, it's no skin off my nose. It has to make sense though. None of this out-of-left-fucking-field shit.

Morning reading, afternoon reading, or nighttime reading?
All three.

Stand-alone or series?
Both.

Favorite series?
The Jessica Darling series by Megan McCafferty. Hands down.

Favorite children's book?
Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. I'm equal parts wary and excited about the movie adaptation.

Favorite YA book?
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard?
Cranberry Queen by Kathleen DeMarco

Favorite books read last year?
The Cider House Rules by John Irving and Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut.

Favorite books of all time?
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, and The Secret History by Donna Tartt.

Least favorite book you finished last year?
Ehhh...the Uglies, Pretties series wasn't quite as satisfying as I'd hoped. Great premise but Westerfeld isn't exactly writing award-worthy prose, you know?

What are you reading right now?
I'm currently re-reading The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides. GUH. I love him.

What are you reading next?
I have no idea. I have a stack by my bedroom door just waiting to be read. As with writing, I go through phases with reading. It's usually one or the other.

Favorite book to recommend to an eleven-year-old?
I adored Otto of the Silver Hand when I was around that age.

Favorite book to reread?
See Favorite books of all time. I usually give those a pass every few months, and I love to randomly open them to page whatever and just read.

Do you ever smell books?
Maybe. I smelled the books I picked up at Half-Priced Books to make sure they weren't too bad.

Do you ever read primary source documents?
Primary what?

Oh, in very funny news, I have been banned at TWoP. Again. *SNORT* Because of a tiny kerfluffle in the Katherine Heigl thread. I knew it would be the death of me.
