I received a lovely review for my fic He and I. It was a nice surprise, as it is such a small fandom. Most of the it is HoYay!-centric so we meager few who march to a different beat don't get much attention.

Congrats! You need a PR machine to promote your work. (I'm glad you made this lj.)
You know, the only difficulty I have with the Ho-yay community is that it seems largely dominated by straight women. The presence of actual lesbians or gays seems to me to minuscule. To me, that just seems like cultural imperialism - a co-opting of someone else's life experience.
Actually, that's not true. I also have a very enormous difficulty with the Ho-yay community's loud and constant campaign to lobby for their right to commit this act of thievery.
romanticalgirl said it best: I know you're cutting edge. You're all non-discriminatory and hipper than hip and cooler than cool. Hell, you're madder than old King Kong and meaner than a junkyard dog.
This, however, does not make EVERY MALE CHARACTER in EVERY SINGLE STORY a homosexual, bisexual or even bicurious person. Some guys are just friends. Some guys hate other guys. Some guys like to have sex with women and only women. Some guys have NEVER EVER looked at their best friend or co-worker or random guy ont he street and thought "Damn, but my cock would look nice in that ass". Honest.
Which immediately brought to mind my days in the Roswell fandom when there was this huge war between the Ho!Yay! factions and the Dreamers and the Candies. What I couldn't abide was this mentality on the part of the Ho!Yay!-advocates that they were somehow smarter or better than those who supported the canon couples. Just because Kyle hates Max, it's not because of some secret desire to fuck Max. They liked the same girl for fuck's sake. That's it. Jeez.
And then you have the Everwood fandom, especially since Bright hooked up with Hannah. The Ephram/Bright lovers see Ho!Yay! in every fucking scene, and since the writers (and actors to an extent) made a joke of it, those fans can't let it go. Bright is straight. Ephram is straight. Case closed.
