My sinuses have teamed up with the weather. THEY ARE TOTALLY TRYING TO KILL ME. I wish I could do like they do in that commercial, take off this thing that I like to call head-formerly-known-as-mine, so that when this shit finally goes all sorts of explodey, at least part of me will survive. Yeah, I don't know. I blame the headache.

THIS, however, is TOTAL FUCKING WIN. Seriously, King, you are a most awesome of awesome things.

My man S.King is master of the burn. Plus, his massive books double as weapons when people are like, "You reading Stephen King? Really?" Apply book to forehead. Problem solved!

Feel better soon! Yikes.

Heh. Please, The Stand still ranks in my top ten books. My English professor last semester is a YUUUUGE fan, and we watched King's Biography in class one night. To come from such dire straights and turn himself into this writing/publishing machine? That should be respected, man. Plus, he was the first author to really open my eyes to description and how to use it well. (I also totally adore his voice, which I did not realize until I saw the biography.)

Oh, yes, the headache is gone (FINALLY), but I had to pull out the tried and true, one-two punch of Allegra and Advil. Alas, the allergies this season have been astoundingly horrible so I expect to be popping more of both later.

uuuugh, whenever I get sick it always settles in my sinuses first, and then it moves down into my throat and then my lungs and I'm stuck with a gross cough for weeks.

THIS. It ALWAYS goes through my sinuses first, but then I haven't had anything but sinus infections in years. (THANK GOD.) The worst part is the pressure. You can't bend over because you either feel like your head is soon to go *POP*, or it makes you so dizzy you feel like your ass is going to hit the turf.

UGH. Sickness SUCKS. If I'm going to call off work, I better be "sick" and not SICK.

I have always appreciated Stephen King. He came from nothing and built an empire. By writing. He has great female characters, writes with empathy - which is in very short supply these days - and has made a massive catalogue of popular culture. When I was trying to figure out how to write, the mechanics of it, transitions, how to pad a paragraph so there was some writing writing and not just all he said, she said, he helped me a great deal. I had a copy of Dead Zone in my bathroom for a year and I used to check it all the time.

That's what I hated most about the miniseries adaptation of The Stand. They totally fucked Franny's characterization. This is a girl who got pregnant at the worst possible time but chose to continue the pregnancy without the boy. Then when she lost her father to the flu, she was the one to wrap his body and drag-carry it downstairs. Yet the Franny we got on screen was this whiny little brat that I wanted to smack up the side of her head.

Exactly. He informed a great deal of my writing, as did Eugenides and Tartt, but he was the first to really open my eyes to description in its best form.

I still need to read The Dead Zone, but I loved the movie.
