He said, "Mike, let me tell you something. On my wedding night in our honeymoon suite, I took off my pants, handed them to your mother, and said, 'Here, try these on.'

She did and said, "These are too big. I can't wear them."

I replied, "Exactly...I wear the pants in this family and I always will.' Ever since that night, we have never had any problems."

"Hmmm," said Mike. He thought that might be a good thing to try.

On his honeymoon, Mike took off his pants and said to Karen, "Here, try these on..."

She tried them on and said, "These are too large. They don't fit me."

Mike said, "Exactly. I wear the pants in this family and I always will. I don't want you to ever forget that."

Then Karen took off her panties and handed them to Mike. She said, "Here, you try on mine."

Mike did and said, "I can't get into your panties."

Karen said, "Exactly. And if you don't change your smart-ass attitude, you never will."

In other news, Mom and I rented The Secret Life of Bees yesterday. It really captured the tone and themes of the book so well, even if it did young-ify the sisters and Rosaleen, and I, of course, SOBBED LIKE A BABY through the latter half of it. The use of india.arie's "Beautiful" socked me in the chest bone, people, and I’ll admit I’m predisposed to love anything Sophie Okonedo does because hello, AWESOME, but she WAS May.

I told Mom she has to read the book, like, immediately.

Ha! That's awesome. :) Of course, if his wife were overweight/bigger than him, it wouldn't work as well.

See, that was my first thought. That imagery - the man standing there in his wife's droopy draws - just makes me giggle. Of course, my friend's guy friend was all, "THIS IS FAIL. NO STRAIGHT MAN WOULD WEAR HIS WIFE'S UNDERWEAR." Yeah, sweetie. *pats him on the head* You keep telling yourself that.

Secret Life of Bees? NIce to hear it succeeded in capturing the heart of the bok. Also, any movie with Pul Bettany is a movie worth atching, even if he usually plays the bad guys.

It really did, and I love that book to a ridiculous degree so I went into it with extremely high expectations. I'd recommend it.

Paul Bettany captured TRay's loss and grief over Deborah so well. You realized something was going on from scene one. He loved her and yet his love all but killed her. He couldn't bear a life without her so he turned into what Lily grew up with and what we met onscreen. It amazes me how well he portrayed him, given how minimal his screentime really was, as a matter of fact.

I think that is Bettany's forte, actually: making 2-dimensional character 3-dimensional or inhabiting characters with limited screentime so that those characters just *hit* you.

It really is. His final scene just gutted me. I actually wanted to hug him, and my immediate reaction to all things TRay = KICK. KICK HARD.

I am actually of the opinion that Bettany, not Ledger or Bale or whoever is the best actor of his generation, no lie.
