IS NOTHING SACROSANCT??!! I don't want you guys reading comics, it hurts my head. I did not spend my teenagedom having to justify comics so that everybody could turn around and decide comics are cool. I want things to go back to the way they were, when comics and sci-fi was for geeks and geeks were marginalized.
Hee! That’s right, comic book geek, comic books are hitting the mainstream!
But, hey now, I've been watching Heroes since day one and that's basically comic book put on film, so yeah. Also? This will probably be the only comic book(s) I ever read and not for lack of trying. I'm just hoping Xander and Buffy finally stop denying that they lurve each other because that's really all I want out of this series. Well, and I like the idea of all those slayers out there and it seems that's going to be one of the main themes they explore. That was one of the only things I actually liked about season seven.
You know, Joss Whedon has a lot of comics under his belt. He already did Fray, which takes place in the future Buffyverse, and he's currently writing Astonishing Xmen, which is extremely popular. He also wrote some Firefly comics that lead up to the movie.
I had heard about Fray (sadly, only because of Cassie Claire), but I didn't know anything about Firefly comics. Huh. Anything interesting happen in those? Like, say an explanation how they went from that final scene in "Objects in Space" to the start of Serenity? (That's my main tiff with the movie.)
I haven't seen them, but I imagine addressing that issue would be the point. Actually, I quit comics, and apart from sometimes d/ling them, or reading them in the store, I don't really look at them. To be honest, mostly I think they suck. Over at scans_daily, a lot of the art folks post is crap, IMO. I quit when a writer I was following quit, and was replaced by a writer who was retconing the story. I finally understood the story would never be done and this new, pale version of it would just be frustrating. So I stopped.
Wow. That's kind of sad, actually. You've been into them since you were a kid. But I kind of agree with you. Better to quit when things are only starting to really go down the shitter. Saves you at least some of the bitterness.
